'The Birds,' stags and insects influence fall accessories at Hitchcock

Like a setting out of one of Alfred's movies, the scene has shifted at Hitchcock, the closet-sized accessories shop in Madrona that takes its inspiration from the styles of the director's leading ladies. The trio of owners has transformed the petite boutique for fall. A pair of antlers hangs outside the shop. The exterior and interior walls are now a deep plum color, an oversized gilt framed mirror gives the illusion of spaciousness, a faux raven sits atop a pair of stag horns adorned with necklaces, and a black "crystal" chandelier is squarely centered on the ceiling. While it doesn't replicate the intensity of Norman Bates' taxidermy decor, it certainly gives a nod in that direction with an emphasis on organic and entomologically influenced accessories.
Aside from the comfortably arcane ambiance, you'll find an abundance of accessories reflecting the boutique's fall theme of stags and ravens. Jewelry includes Erica Wiener's "cast bug" pendants featuring beetles, cicadas and bees in bronze ($59-$89); Lisa Kinoshita's brazenly organic jewelry including antler earrings, a stag horn necklace and a classic but mesmerizing beaded black onyx necklace ($60-$250); and Anomalie sterling silver tusk earrings, fawn pendants and feather earrings ($89-$250).
Other accessories not to miss: the softly luxurious Tippi Hedren-inspired gloves that come in short "scooped wrist" to opera length styles in red, purple and black ($99-$175); sassy little Leah C. felt berets in red, black and plum ($185); silk ascots by Smoking Lily with screen prints of bees or planes (perfect as scarves, belts or hair bands) for $65; men's belts by Shane featuring resin buckles with miniature paintings of city scenes and animal artwork ($175); and Not Rational leather handbags in gorgeous fall colors of olive, plum and bronze ($355-$575).
Many items are one of a kind or limited in quantity (I have dibs on that little deer necklace), so it's best to head there soon. It's a straight shot as the crow flies from downtown.
