If you're the type to carry everything but the kitchen sink in your handbag/tote/weekender, these bags are for you. Hardware handbags and accessories, by local designer Lori Naon, feature hardware-grade handles made from materials such as flexible stainless steel, braided vinyl, and hex nuts. They have industrial snaps, grommets and bodies made from nylon canvas (the same fabric as backpacks). These tough materials take a beating and seem to fend off every offense from rain to travel abuse.

Naon's background in selling active sport fabrics to major retailers and her design aesthetics for modern style resulted not only in a nearly-indestructible bag, but a stylish one as well. They're simple, yet contemporary. I love the Shopper – it's perfect for stuffing with magazines and files, and toting a laptop. The Weekender goes anywhere – the beach, sailing, camping, and short trips. The bags are lined in silver metallic nylon, and their deep inside pockets can accommodate drinks, cell phones, and makeup. They come in a variety of contrasting colors such as black and chocolate, sky and chocolate, and olive and sky.

Prices range from $112 to $136. Available at Magnolias on Madison on Bainbridge Island, and at Hardware's website.
