Boots are this fall's star accessory, whatever your taste or budget

I think it's safe to say that the fall of 2009 is shaping up to be the season of the boot. No rules apply. Recently I've seen women wearing short and tall boots of every heel height despite the fashion forecast calling for ankle boots.
Retailers are following suit, stocking their shops with a nice variety of boots, following both form and function. Whether you tuck your jeans into your tall boots, or pair some with a short skirt, you're likely to find just the right ones to suit your style.
Edie's, with stores in West Seattle and Capitol Hill, has a nice showing of basic black and brown boots from Camper and Italian-made Manas Design. Both styles sport a low heel and hit below the knee. At between $280 and $300, they hover near the high end for some folks, but quality brands such as these with their classic shape mean they're not likely to go out of style anytime soon.
If your boot budget hits below the $200 mark, swing by West Seattle's Clementine, whose owner, Linda Walsh, has gone to great lengths to bring in quirky, distinctive styles at a lower price point. Choose from red, brown and caramel ruched boots from Miz Mooz for $129.99; water-resistant, rubber-soled, slouchy black patent leather calf-length ones for $99; or sleek turquoise calf-length or taller black platform heels from Antelope for $198 each.
Heading over to Ballard, Re-soul carries flat-soled, soft leather boots in natural blacks and browns from Off the Beaten Track for $179. With touches like rubberized toes, large metal eyelets and ankle straps, these versatile, comfortable options look good with any outfit.
If your boot tastes tend towards the extreme, you already know that Dolce Vita is the place to go for over-the-knee stunners. Styles range from simple to studded, with prices hovering around $300. If it's drama you want, head to this Ballard boutique.
