What do you get when you mash up a fashion show, a worthy cause and a rock-star emcee? Northwest Hope and Healing's sixth annual fashion show, "Style '08: Look Good, Feel Good, Do Good." The event takes place May 1 at the Showbox SoDo.
Style '08 will feature the latest spring fashions from 12 local boutiques, including West Seattle shops Carmelia's and Clementine, and Chris Ballew, lead singer of the Presidents of the Unites States of America, will host.
Runway models will include breast-cancer survivors, volunteers and Top Model ticket holders (at a cost of $1,000, which includes a choice of modeling in the show or front-row table seating for four), all made runway-ready by the stylists at West Seattle's Ola salon. General admission "Look Good" tickets are $40, VIP "Feel Good" tickets are $125 and "Do Good" tickets, which include VIP table seating for two, are $500.
Northwest Hope and Healing is a nonprofit organization that provides nonmedical essentials to women with breast cancer and their families, as well as Healing Baskets filled with comforting items like teddy bears, herbal tea and notes of encouragement to newly diagnosed women. Last year, the organization distributed 800 baskets and provided $100,000 worth of child care, transportation, wigs and emergency food and shelter for 215 patients. More than $40,000 of those funds came from the runway event.
The show starts at 7 p.m., and is 21 and over. Tickets can be purchased online or in West Seattle at Carmelia's, Sweetie and Coastal on Alki; in Madison Valley at Canopy Blue; on First Avenue downtown at Nuvo Moda and The Finerie; and in Ballard at Kick It Boots and Stompwear.
