This Easter season, the confectioners of Dilettante Chocolate Café bring you the motherlode: Meet Thumper, a 40-lb. solid milk chocolate bunny who could crush a dozen Cadbury eggs with a flex of his big toe. He's one of several giant chocolate figures that the company creates during Christmas and Easter to tempt shoppers into the flagship store on Broadway Avenue.
This big boy attracts a steady stream of admirers, who all have the same burning questions: How much does he cost? ($400.) How tall is he? (Three feet.) Then there's the question that makes us blush: How many calories? (About 200 calories per ounce -- so, roughly 128,000. Oh, my.)
If Thumper is too much for you to handle, Dilettante offers chocolate bunnies in four other sizes, starting with a four-inch tall bunny named Lopsy. Sadly, Lopsy doesn't attract nearly as much attention as Thumper, but we hear he's just as sweet.
So, who gets to bring Thumper home to mom? Bunnies of his size are available for custom order, and are sometimes snatched up for churches, charity events and schools, according to folks from the corporate office. If Thumper's 40 pounds of decadence are not purchased, he'll be broken up and sold at the Dilettante Factory Outlet and Seconds. Then everyone can get a piece.
