Do bookworms eat pizza? Summer reading prizes and promotions
By Lora Shinn

Our local Borders stores just announced their summer reading program, which they're putting on with the assistance of Papa Murphy's Pizzas, 103.7 The Mountain and ParentMap.
Head to Seattle-area Borders locations and pick up suggested reading lists and entry forms. After kids complete the forms, they'll receive a free medium-size one-topping pizza from the Papa, and are entered to win prizes -- like a complete set of signed Brian Jacques books for your Redwall fanatic (like mine), a year of free pizza from Papa Murphy's or Pacific Science Center family passes.
And don't forget these other summer scores:
Half Price Books. Read at least 15 minutes a day, five days a week, and redeem the log for a free $3 off coupon card at Half Price Books. Read, Repeat, Read: You can get $3 off every week. This is open to kids 10 and under. Hurry, this one's done on August 2. Read more here at Half Price Books.
Barnes and Noble. Read eight books, write up a mini-review, and then choose a free book from a list of titles. Open to ravenous readers in first through sixth grades. Read more about the program at B&N's site.
Seattle Public Library. Last but never least, stop by your neighborhood branch and sign up for the summer reading program. Read 10 books, receive a free one, and enter into a drawing for a fancy-fancy breakfast with the mayor. You can grill him on his favorite titles (Atlas Shrugged or How The Other Half Lives?) over waffles. Open to kids from infancy to those of us in adult-sized bodies, so read more about it at the SPL site.
What's your favorite summer book? Leave it below or e-mail Lora at littlekidsbigcity@nwsource.com; see previous entries at http://littlekidsbigcity.com.
