Local nonprofit organization Childhaven will hold its 10th annual Butterfly Tea and Fashion Show Sunday, April 27, from 1 to 3 p.m., in the Spanish Ballroom of the historic Fairmont Olympic Hotel. Sip tea and nibble on cucumber sandwiches while you and your little one are treated to an eyeful of adorable spring fashion from West Seattle's premier kids' boutique, Georgia Blu.

Childhaven, whose mission is to stop the cycle of childhood abuse and neglect, has a long of history of hosting teas as fundraisers. The organization was founded in 1909 (then named the Seattle Day Nursery) in association with the First Presbyterian Church, and the ladies of the congregation would host teas as a way to raise money for nursery supplies.

This tradition has continued in the last decade with the Butterfly Tea, which also encourages children to participate in philanthropy. As part of their goody bag, kids receive a custom-painted piggy bank, along with the suggestion that they save their change and bring the bank back to the next year's tea as a donation to Childhaven.

Local designers and florists have created whimsical and lavish storybook-themed Monarch tables ($2500, seats 10), which are well placed for a great view of the runway. Butterfly-themed Swallowtail tables ($150 per adult, $50 per child) are set back one row from the runway in the ballroom's main section. Adult Patron tickets are $250 and include reserved seating and special recognition in the event's program.

Photographers from Yuen Lui will be on hand to commemorate the event. For more information and to purchase tickets, go to the Childhaven Web site.
