While at Sugarlump, a childrens' consignment shop in Madison Valley, a couple of days ago, I found what I think is the perfect jacket for little ones in Seattle. This little rain coat from GO!Globo looks common enough, but it features a post-consumer recycled plastic fleece lining, made from old PET bottles. More exciting for the user is the fact that it folds into itself to become a handy little backpack, so mom and dad aren't stuck carrying the thing when the weather warms up.
The hood on this jacket has an elastic edge, keeping it secure on small heads, and the wrists have adjustable Velcro straps to keep the sleeves comfortable even when they're a little long. The jacket, also available without lining, is the first product from this local, Kent-based family design shop. A portion of their proceeds go to support the Sustainable Schools Initiative.
At present, the jackets are available in just two sizes, a 2/3 and a 4/5. Even the smaller size was still way too big for Gub, but we had to get one for her cousin who will find it just as handy in foggy California as we do in Drizzle Town. At $35, I know this is a jacket from which we will get our money's worth.

Post a commentGreat review. A little more background. When the GO Globo decided to produce a jacket they were very market savy and went right to the source for help and inspiration. They contacted Lyndsey Starkey at "Spoiled by Nana" located in Gilman Village, Issaquah, a fantastic kids clothing store, and worked very closely with her to establish what mom's & dad's wanted and needed in this style coat. They went through numerous prototypes before arriving at this very cool, versatile, jacket made of recycled materials. Another strong point is that GO Globo has a return policy in place where they will take the jackets back when they are no longer needed and recycle then. We are very pleased to have been associated with the development of this sustainable jacket (and more products to come). The jacket is also available at "Spoiled by Nana" in Issaquah along with many other natural & ethical fashions for kids.
p.s. Lyndsey Starkey also owns "Birth and Beyond" the store for new moms & dads across the street from "SugerLump"
Thank you for your information, Lilium....Very useful and good to know. The jacket is of good quality. This might catch on soon. Keep up with your great investigative work. Grateful.
