Great sales on kid things are happening all over the city. Today I walked by On the Way Maternity in West Seattle and saw they are having a sale from today (Jan. 19) through this Friday, Jan. 25. Everything in the store is 20 percent off. I haven't stopped in since shortly after they opened, but they carry a great selection of stylish maternity wear, as well as practical items such as nursing bras. They also have some cute nursery furnishings and great strollers: Both Phil&Teds and Zooper are available here.

I haven't made it to Georgia Blu's progressive sale yet, but my friend picked up some great long johns for Gub a few days ago. Selected items are now 40 percent off, and will be reduced to 50 percent off next Saturday, Jan. 26.

Plan ahead for Izilla Toys' sale in February. Everything will be 10 percent off, with many items more heavily discounted. Izilla's owner, Jude, says there will be a lot of fun events for the family starting next month as well -- I'll be sure to update as the month gets closer.

Finally, don't forget the Children's Film Festival at the Northwest Film Forum, which runs Jan. 25-Feb. 3. Izilla is one of the sponsors, and Jude says there will be great films for kids of all ages. The lineup looks great, with everything from animation to shorts on growing up to a 1926 silent feature with a live score.

When she isn't writing about kids and families, Lilium Pierson can be found adventuring in Seattle with her young daughter, "Gub." Their favorite activities include library visits, Sundays at the West Seattle farmers market and exploring their neighborhood. Pierson's work has appeared in Seattle Business Monthly.
