Ballard kids' shop Mon Petit Shoe draws its name from the French term of endearment "mon petit chou," which means "my little cabbage." Bring your little cabbage to the new Market Street store and she'll leave not only well shod but also outfitted in cute, comfy clothing from local and national brands.
The well-organized store is bright, friendly and packed to bursting with reasonably priced shoes and apparel. The shoe wall has classic styles for those new to walking, such as See Kai Run's red-and-white T-strap "Hailey" ($35.99) for girls. There's also a full complement of Robeez shoes, plus frog and ladybug rain boots ($23.95).
Mon Petit Shoe favors vibrant prints and natural fibers. Clothes range from organic cotton infant gear to Esprit skirts and sweaters for the 12-year-old set. You'll find onesies ($15.95) and sleeper sets ($39.95-$48.95) appliquéd with animals from local kid clothier Bunnies By the Bay, and handy legwarmers ($11.95) -- in dalmatian print, stripes and floral patterns -- that allow for snap-free diaper changes, from Seattle outfit Baby Legs.
For moms about town, high-end Petunia Pickle Bottom diaper bags ($152) add a splash of sophistication to an essential accessory. The elegantly embroidered satin bags take the frump out of hauling diapers, a pastime with which most visitors to this shop are quite familiar.
Mon Petit Shoe is at 2236 N.W. Market St.; 206-784-1144.
