More room for Square Room

The Capitol Hill gift shop opens a second location

November 21, 2006

Amy Pfaffman Jewelry

Amy Pfaffman Jewelry

San Francisco artist Amy Pfaffman sets real taxidermy eyes in her sterling silver jewelry ($78-$110 at Square Room).

Looking for unique gifts? Check out the new Square Room location on Capitol Hill, opened as of Nov.18. This second location has a more industrial vibe with galvanized steel walls and sleek display tables. Owner/artists Brian McGuffey and Leif Holland have focused on handcrafted items and gifts here rather than the fine art paintings and photography in their original shop.

Some interesting finds include San Francisco artist Amy Pfaffman's eye-catching rings, earrings and necklaces. She takes real taxidermy eyes and sets them in sterling silver ($78-$110). I also like the wood clutches by Tivi made from exotic woods and goatskin for $290 (so modern but organic), and Tivi's veneer and metal cuff bracelets ($75), sharp on either men or women. Consider the Goorin Brothers hats from a family-run outfit since 1895. The warm and fashionable designs for men and women are $22-$78. For entertainers there is affordable Roost tableware and glassware, including martini glasses and champagne flutes with platinum colored stems ($21 each). Need to clean before company comes? Square room has its own line of natural home products and body care.
