This tiny gift shop is perfectly located in the heart of Madrona, right next to Verité -- the original home of Cupcake Royale, makers of those liberally frosted mini-cakes gaily topped with sprinkles. The charming storefront is just as enticing as the cupcakes, painted celadon green and festooned with flowers.

Just about everything in the Rem Koolhaas-designed Seattle Central Library is far-out, so it's not surprising that the library gift shop has a clever set-up. When it's closed, the third-floor retail store known as the FriendShop resembles a giant, sky-colored box. During business hours, it slides apart into five separate structures loaded with gifts and artwork crafted by local artists.
