Owner Lisa Clinton opened her shop this month near Verite, the cupcake Mecca. Juniper's Spartan, uncluttered, space has concrete floors, natural wood display shelves, and a sleek black bench seat. The simplicity of the decor reflects Clinton's philosophy about her shop. "Designers who consider the whole process of their creativity rather than the end result create special and more valuable items. I'm drawn to designers whose clothing is going to last through trends and I'm especially interested in those working to tread more lightly on the planet," says Clinton.

Gen X parents and grandparents tired of all the cutesy baby accoutrements out there should take a trip to tottini, a newly opened shop that carries "furnishings for offspring." This is not to say that you won't use the word cute when in this shop. I did about 52 times. It's simply a lively and colorful aesthetic with modern design in mind where pink and baby blue take a backseat to fashionable colors.
