Thursday afternoon, my kids and I hit the University Village Sidewalk Sale. Great stuff! At Village Maternity, I saw Mei-tei-style baby carriers, maternity wear and infant swimsuits, plus $10 bins of baby and toddler gear.

I picked up some Tea boy-pants, for more than 50 percent off the original price. Tip: More Tea T-shirts and shorts are inside for tots under 24 months, directly to the left of Village Maternity's door.

Dreamlets are quirky companions for kids of all ages

You'd think the idea for Dreamlets would have come to Matty Harper in, well, a dream. As it happens, the story behind these quirky plush creatures is a bit more complicated than that. According to Harper, a local designer who worked as an art director for a Seattle ad agency before founding his own company in 2006, a trip to Vietnam six years ago is what really inspired him.

The beautiful weather today inspired Gub and me to make our Sunday outing extra long. Instead of just going to the neighborhood farmer's market, we jumped on a bus and headed downtown to the Pike Place Market. After lunch at the Crumpet Shop, we stopped in at Dragon's Toy Box, where they are having a sale. Lots of stuff is 25-75 percent off, including a bunch of games and art kits.

Gub and I made it over to Ballard a couple of days ago and hit our regular stops: shoe store and toy shop. At Mon Petit Shoe, the spot for well-shod young ones, they are having a sale of 25-40 percent off a nice selection of clothes and shoes in sizes 12 months through 11 years.

Izilla Toys' crafts and games

I mentioned a while back that Izilla Toys is having a major sale through the month of February: Everything is at least 10 percent off, with some items up to 50 percent off.

But that isn't the only reason to head over for a visit. Two regular storytimes are now scheduled each week: 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursdays and 2 to 3 p.m. Sundays. Izilla's big back room is a comfy place to lounge and listen, and the store will provide juice and snacks.

Sale at Kid's Club

While out on our rounds yesterday, Gub and I stopped at Kid's Club in University Village. I had been there before, but it was back in the days of newborn parenting, and my focus was narrow. This store really has it all, from toys to darling clothes, and from art supplies to strollers -- not to mention a great selection of baby-proofing supplies, feeding equipment and diapering stuff.
