South Lake Union welcomes Portage Bay Cafe to the neighborhood

Lately, it seems that any local restaurant worth its salt has taken a perpetually endless waiting list to mean that they ought to spawn a sibling. Thus we have a great new crop of twists and spin-offs that have ridden the reputations of their older counterparts to some solid success over the last year.

Table 219 has your number for brunch and upscale comfort food

New name, same brunch. Different decor, same brunch. New dinner menu, new chef, more wine, full bar, same brunch, same brunch, same brunch.

Yes, the old El Greco on Capitol Hill has made some changes, but there's no need to panic. On Saturdays, Sundays and even Fridays, you can still get the same eggs Benedict with the same tomato mushroom sauce and the same crack-dipped French toast. The owners of the Capitol Hill mainstay would never dream of abandoning the neighborhood in its hungover hour of need.

Moxie brings brunch with nerve to Lower Queen Anne

The denizens of Lower Queen Anne know they've got a good thing going, with nearly every heart's desire just a short walk away. Add to this list of amenities a new option for that most indulgent of weekend meals: brunch, now served Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Moxie, on First Avenue North.

Dive into Portage Bay Café's mouthwatering migas

Delicious, simple Southwestern food is cuisine origami: Wrap cheese and sauce in a tortilla this way, and it's a taco. Fold it that way, it's a burrito. Add an egg, and ta-da!

Meet your favorite restaurant for brunch

When it comes to chichi restaurants, I have a serious fear of commitment. They bat their eyelashes, make lots of promises and turn on the come-hither charm, and even though you've heard through the grapevine they might be a little sketchy, your curiosity wins out and you finally break down and go. Then what do you know? They let you down. The next day you find yourself alone at the gym, feeling poor, fat and regretful that you didn't heed the warnings.

Veganism holds its own at Squid & Ink

Vegans get hangovers, too.
A Sweet Posie grows in Ballard

Ballard is fast becoming Seattle's breakfast epicenter. Fans of the most important meal of the day have a wealth of options, among them the hearty breakfasts served at the Hi-Life, the excellent weekend brunches at Volterra and the weekday take-away choices at Café Besalu.

Warm Leatherette: The Skylark Cafe & Club

The courting male skylark (alauda arvensis) sings a happy song to lure a new lover. Known for its soaring, sing-songy flight, the bird, found in the Western United States and elsewhere, is well-adored: Percy Bysshe Shelley wrote his 105-line "To a Skylark" in praise of it; Buick named a car after it. And on June 2, 2006, in honor of her family's muscular 1965 white Buick Skylark ("we called it the White Whale"), Jessie Summa-Kusiak (SOO-mah KOOZ-ee-yak) named her paean to West Seattle, Skylark Cafe & Club, after it.
