Whym Cafe in lower Queen Anne is now open to serve your late-night dining needs

Whym Cafe, a 24-hour diner located in the First and Denny space formerly occupied by Minnie's Cafe, is now open for business. If you've been getting your post-club breakfasts at the Hurricane or Beth's and are beginning to burn out on the mere idea of chowing down at 3 a.m., this third option may put the spice of variety back into your jaded life.

Middle-aged guns go for it! George Michael plays KeyArena July 2

In September 1985 my posse and I, along with several thousand similarly rabid teenaged girls, descended upon Oakland Stadium to witness the miracle that was Wham!

We stood through a full opening set by Katrina and the Waves and another by the Pointer Sisters. I bought a T-shirt whose then-scandalous price I still haven't confessed to my mother. And we screamed our fool heads off for George Michael.

Pagliacci Pizza has been serving up slices and sodas from its Queen Anne location, on the corner of Queen Anne Avenue and Mercer Street, since 1988. That's right: You've been getting your pre-game/pre-concert/pre-movie pizza at the Queen Anne Pagliacci's since Dukakis.

Never mind the weather -- summer still means sidewalk sales

Summer in Seattle means Seafair, neighborhood festivals and sidewalk sales. The nice weather brings people out of hibernation and shops spill out onto the sidewalk to entice buyers with deeply discounted merchandise. Below is a list of the major sidewalk sales happening in Seattle neighborhoods this summer.

Oslo's men's boutique knows what dads want for Father's Day

Before my father retired, he was a lawyer on Wall Street, and his impeccable daily uniform featured an abundance of beautiful suits and amazing ties. But his off-duty clothes? Look out. The man in black socks and shorts you saw in television ads? He was real. Many dads, it seems, don't do dress-down very well.

How do you say "ahhh" in French? "Mon Dieu! C'est tres magnifique," will do nicely. And it's exactly the phrase you will utter after a visit to Seattle aesthetician Jill Bucy's new Lower Queen Anne skin care salon, which offers a variety of services, from French facials and massages to nail treatments and waxing.

"Right now, half of all new pinball machines are sold directly into people's basements," says Greg Dunlap. "There is no way to indoctrinate a new generation of players because there are so few street locations for kids to play, and of those that exist the majority are bars."

City Parents: Susan Cavanagh, The Diaper Whisperer

Baby's Bottom Line is just like a pizza delivery service -- with diapers instead of deep-dish. When Seattle-area sleep-deprived parents want to order cloth diapers, Susan Cavanagh will hand-deliver a wide variety of prefolds, pockets, inserts, doublers, fitteds, all-in-ones, one-size-fits-all diapers and zebra-print covers to match.

She'll even help parents select a diapering system that works for their lifestyle and budget, or teach parents how to put ON the diapers, using her model baby doll (it's so model, it never cries).

Play Pokemon, win free stuff

Last week, Nintendo released a fresh batch of Pokemon cards: The Majestic Dawn deck.

Pokemon is strategy-based card game first released in 1998, and now on the comeback. There's math and tactical maneuvers, and the Pokemon critters are pretty cute. Loudred is my favorite in my daughter's box of cards. Loudred looks like a freakish blend of an alligator, marshmallows and Bjork. What's not to love?

Northwest Folklife with little folk

We've gone to Northwest Folklife for the past two years with minimal tears, using strategy the military could only aspire to. But this is Folklife ... so it's a tie-dyed, guitar-strumming, patchouli-scented strategy that might not work so well on a real battlefield.

Here are some tips for a great time:
