Discover back yards in bloom at the Georgetown Art and Garden Walk on July 13

In late January 2000, Pacific Northwest magazine profiled lifelong Georgetown resident Jon Dove, that year's grand-prize winner of the Arboretum Foundation's Pacific Northwest Garden contest. The garden of his towering 1905 home was resplendent with lush foliage, prolific roses and an onion-dome-shaped privet.

Georgetown was barely on my radar then. I knew it was south of downtown and, well, somewhere near the Hat n' Boots. But I didn't realize that people actually lived there, let alone cultivated beautiful gardens in their yards.

The neighborhood of Georgetown -- particularly the stretch of Airport Way between Corson and 13th Avenue South -- is among the most charmed real estate in this city.

Fill your trunk at Georgetown's Full Throttle Bottles

You've got more than 350 different brands of beer? Big deal. You've got 200 bottles of wine? Yee-haw. To make it in the heart of Georgetown's booze district, you need more than simple booze. You need a coin-operated elephant.

The Georgetown Music Fest rocks Airport Way this weekend

It's been 25 years since the great "Synchronicity" -- the last album of new material by the Police -- was released. I was young and impressionable in 1983, and I took to the album's songs of dinosaurs, depression and the Loch Ness Monster like Wilmer Valderrama takes to paid personal appearances. I've been listening to "Synchronicity" every minute since then, taking breaks for meals and sleep, and y'know, I think it may be time for me to get into some new music.

Sitka & Spruce's rising star to launch Georgetown venture

Four years ago, chef Matthew Dillon went to a party in a nearly century-old building in Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood, and something about the place got under his skin. With its square tiled roof, arched windows and fanciful gardens, the one-time ornamental-stonework operation felt like it belonged in the Italian countryside, yet it was surrounded by, as Dillon puts it, "all this industrial mayhem."

Smarty Pants' Troublemaker is one bad mamma-jamwich (it's built, it's stacked)

Maybe it's the smoky strips of thick-cut bacon or the enormous, juicy chunks of chicken that escape their sandwich confines like a teenager skipping out on curfew. Then again, it could be the gooey jack cheese, heaps of caramelized onions and healthy slather of spicy secret sauce that all melt together to create their own lusty affair. Or perhaps it has something to do with a French roll so huge it redefines the term gluttony.

Get amped for the Greater Seattle Vintage Guitar Show

Axe gods, enthusiasts, posers and dreamers are clearing their calendars for the 17th annual Greater Seattle Vintage Guitar Show, April 27 at F.O.E. Hall in Georgetown.

Dealers from eight states and Canada will be on hand to tempt you with new, used and classic instruments. In addition to guitars and basses, you'll find thousands of amplifiers, drums, keyboards and effects to buy and trade (enlist your van-driving friends now). Prize drawings throughout the day will total more than $10,000 in musical gear.

It's been almost 10 years since John Flicker coasted down Orcas Street and, spying the treetops of Seward Park thrusting skyward like the spires of a forest cathedral, declared: "This is where we should be."
