Mercer Island mom Sara Seumae designs affordable organic cotton basics for her line, Spun

I'm always excited to come across a new (or new to me) local designer, especially one who understands that women would like to be able to afford clothing made with organic fabrics and non-toxic dyes. We shop our conscience for food and transportation, why not clothing? That's my big thing, anyway.

Chace's Pancake Corral celebrates 50 years of coffee and camaraderie

In 1958, when Bill Chace opened his Pancake Corral in Bellevue, Dwight Eisenhower served in the White House, women still wore hats to the restaurant for breakfast after church, and a plate of "sourdough cakes" cost less than 50 cents.

Mark Pattison taught Seahawks coach Jim Mora how to tame Tiger Mountain

Bring some comfortable running shoes, and be on the mountain at 6:30 in the morning.

That's the only warning Brian Russell and the rest of the secondary got from assistant coach Jim Mora before they arrived at Tiger Mountain one morning this offseason and looked up to see just how big of a challenge the Cable Line trail was going to be.

"If it were any steeper you'd need a ladder," Russell said.

Inchin's Bamboo Garden brings Indian-Chinese cuisine to the Eastside

Indian-Chinese cuisine has become one of the world's most talked-about Asian fusion foods, but — oddly enough — not on the Eastside, even with its large Indian tech work force and Chinese/Asian communities. Inchin's Bamboo Garden in Redmond (not to be confused with Bamboo Garden in Bellevue) hopes to change that.

Inchin's is part of a small but popular East Coast Indian-Chinese restaurant chain. This is its only branch in the Northwest.

Kirkland's new Penterra Spa engages the senses with a natural approach

Just across the 520 bridge, there lies an oasis named for the Greek word for five, pente. The new Penterra Spa at the Heathman Hotel, set just near the banks of Lake Washington in downtown Kirkland, brings urban elegance and a vast range of luxurious treatments to the waterside suburb.

Sit, stay, spa: Pamper your pet with a new skin care line for dogs

I usually wash my dogs in the backyard with the hose. It's a cold, chaotic, treat-heavy experience. But today, I turned my guest bathtub into a mini dog spa to sample one of a new line of animal skin care products recently launched by Bellevue organic chemist Adelia Ritchie.
The next wave of paw protection?

My dog will not wear the Velcro-strap, rubber-soled booties that look so adorable on sled dogs. Whenever I put them on her, she goes into a berserker frenzy. So, when I saw Pawz Protective Dog Boots, I thought, maybe.

Spiffy up your car and help ferrets

I'm a sucker for a bake sale. Throw in a car wash, a raffle and adorable beneficiaries (ferrets!) and you've given me a reason to cross Lake Washington -- even at current gas prices.
