Nestled in the magnificent Siskiyou Mountains, just eight miles from the town of Ashland, Mount Ashland Resort is a small ski area that delivers bold skiing and stunning vistas. Black diamond and intermediate terrain account for 85 percent of the area - the majority of which is for advanced snowriders. From the 7,500-foot summit, the view of the "Big Foot" country of Southern Oregon and Northern California includes the monolithic volcanic peaks of Shasta and McLoughlin, 13 wilderness areas, and 10 national forests. With a base elevation of 6,350 feet, the 300-plus inches of snow falling on Ashland every year is typically softer than the "Cascade Concrete" routinely reported at other ski areas in the Northwest. Ashland's prime conditions are a result of the east-west alignment of the Siskiyou Mountain Range (one of only two such trending ranges in the U.S.) and the rain shadow effect of the coastal mountains, which dry and cool incoming Pacific storms before they hit the slopes of Mount Ashland. The rain shadow also provides bluebird days all winter long.
